Students in California love learning about 4th grade social studies exploring California History and the four California regions, landforms, and geography. They love exploring their state and the stories it tells. In our state, it’s a rite of passage.

Wouldn’t you love to save yourself hours of planning time for teaching 4th Grade Social Studies – History about California regions and geography? I’m here to give you ideas to help you with that.

You may have noticed how most textbooks on this topic are dry and sometimes at a higher level than your students can read at the beginning of the year. This is especially true if you have English learners in your classroom. (What California classroom doesn’t have English learners?)

To help with that, I wrote companion articles about California regions during my years teaching 4th grade social studies. My goal was to make the information in CAHSS 4.1 more accessible and engaging students.

I also created a couple of videos that go over the same material in an engaging manner. It’s really wonderful to hear from fellow teachers who are using these videos and materials!

You can print-and-go, or assign these units digitally! This bundle is available in PDF, PowerPoint, Google Apps (TM). I’ve been told by a teacher friend that the videos have also been adapted on EdPuzzle, if you use that.

In addition to reading comprehension passages, vocabulary activities, and videos, I created a California Regions collaborative poster project, a California Landforms interactive game show, and a California Regions collaborative bulletin board poster and report toppers for your students to color and attach to their own reports.

They make fabulous classroom displays!
